So you need a new headshot. Great, you’ve come to the right place! Here are some tips to help make things go smoothly and get good results.

For both men and women, if you get your hair cut or styled before the shoot, don’t wait until the day before the shoot. Haircuts tend to look better after about a week. Also, if you’re outside a lot in warm months or regions, a new haircut will reveal tan lines on lighter skin. So plan ahead and get it cut a week in advance.

As for what to wear, neutral tones are best. However, it also depends on what you like and what you do. If you have a colorful personality and want to show it in the photo, it’s okay to experiment. You can bring two or three changes of apparel and pick what works best in the resulting photos. For women with long hair, you probably want to wear tones that contrast with your hair color. Also, have your makeup done the day of the shoot. If you want a professional to do your makeup, let us know and we can arrange it. If you’re a professional, a suit is recommended. For men, generally a suit jacket, dress shirt and tie is a good idea for most situations. For both men and women, if you’re in a profession where things are kept casual, the suit is optional of course. If you wear a uniform, wear your dress outfit.

If you wear glasses, we can generally place lighting or pose you to avoid reflections in the lenses. We also recommend doing with and without eyeglass versions.

If you’re an artist or musician and you want some shots with a prop or instrument, by all means, bring it!
